Congratulations to all the Winners! Westchester Rules!

Gene, is there any way to get the total number of entrants in each category?
The complete statistics will usually be published after the winners and medals are awarded.
There are 87 Winemakers that won medals. Possibly more than 1 . Entering 1 wine and winning a medal is a much bigger accomplishment than the phoneys that enter the same wine in multiple catagories or those even those who enter many entries. We know at least one of them.
Now I am waiting for you to say,” I will never doubt your ability to predict a medal winner”
I will never doubt your ability to predict a medal winner. lol. Do you want me to mow your lawn or take the dogs for a walk too? lol. Seriously, your opinion about my wine and your phone call was more important than some judge at a fair – but that is nice too.
Congrats to all the guys and their fine wines.
No need to do any of that just remember for the future. I am batting 1000
Congratulations to All !
congrats everybody that won. I would of liked to enter that one to bad you need to be a resident of newyork.

Congrats guys!

I just got a letter from the NYS Fair dated “Summer 2010″ It is a congratulatory letter stating that they had 109 exhibitors enter 330 wines with 200 winning medals! This is incredible so 2/3 of the pack gets a medal? lol. I think 83 people won medals – 83 out of 109 is 76% of the entrants won a medal! The more I see about these competitions the less I like. If anyone wants my ticket let me know. I thought there would be thousands of competitors or at least ONE thousand. 109 people in the whole state, we probably know most of them! What a joke.
That is just one man’s opinion – Sam Malone.
Sorry, it was 87 winners, that makes it 80%!
You have it all wrong. New York State has a disproportionate amount of excellent winemakers. You should know that. Seriously, the Medals are given on a point system so if judges give a wine 14 points they have no idea how many other wines they will taste as the judging continues will also get 14 points. If 14 points is a Silver then that is what it is. So if there are a lot of wines that impress the judging and points are given then the medal count will be higher. Can you expect the judges to compare all the wines they drink and THEN rate the ranking as to who get medals and who don’t? At the end of the day each wine gets a fair shot at points and Point Ranking determines the Medal Rank or none at all. I don’t know the recent historical medal awards of this contest but I can assure you that in the past the NYS Competition was a pretty tough contest to get a medal. Especially with California Grapes. I know I was the first Gold Medal winner in history for a 97 Refosco. Prior to that only a smattering of Silvers and a bit more Bronze medals were awarded.
So what happens to the medal if you do not show up for the award ceremony? Do they mail it to you?
You get it in the Mail But Paul Gatti plans on attending. since you are not that far away why don’t make arrangements to meet up the night before and during the ceremony the next day?
I am planning to take some time off with some long weekends in the month of August so I will likely not be in the area.
congrats again you guys . That away,
you guys rule. next will be M&M competition

Carmine I was looking forward to attending with the guys but it is on my Wife’s Son’s 40th birthday party so the club will have to carry on without me. I hope you will attend our Harvest Dinner Dance on October 29th. Mario MSC Cellars has indicated he is coming down from Albany. It will be fun to get together and taste all sorts of wines. Speaking of Wines many of us tasted Mario’s Silver Medal 2008 Zinfandel at Easter and were blown away. And of course it just has won a Silver Medal. We had it at our Spring Tasting Dinner. I brought a bottle of it up to North Carolina with the idea of having it with a special dinner. I had it last night with my friends Couzin Brucie and Miss Vicki from Atlanta. It was fabulous! So we decided to call Mario and tell him how much we liked it. He was pleased to hear from us and then he informed me it was the LAST BOTTLE! If I knew that I would have sent it back to him.
I will not be there either . I will be upstate new york, opening day of deer season
Maybe next year we can get Frank to change the date of the awards dinner.
Gene, I am glad you had the last bottle. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Cousin Brucie seems like a real nice guy. I am glad you enjoyed it with friends, I almost felt like I was there. I hope all of us can share many more vintages together.
I am sure we will Mario, I am sure.
