Wooden Valley Petite Sirah wins Double Gold!
It is not really a surprise that the Lanza Vineyards and Winery has captured a Double Gold for their 2009 Petite Sirah. M&M Grape Company provided these grapes to us so we know first hand making these Suisun grapes. The awards we received only prove the wine resulting from them is beyond anything we have ever made before in this varietal.
The Double Gold Medal was awarded by the San Francisco Wine Competition. To me this win has to be particularly sweet when you can top the famed Concannon Winery’s entries by two levels. Nice!
Congratulations to the entire Lanza Family!
Boys, order a few bottles to see what I am talking about. Frank Musto sent me two for Christmas.

This is no surprise.
The Concannon Petite Sirah is a decent commercial product and quite good value for the price. Frequently I buy this wine, when I am not having my own. The PS that
I have made with Lanza PS is superior to Concannon, and it is a no brainer.
I have tried many commercial PS and few equal the quality of Lanza derived PS, and I don’t remember any that were superior in 4 or 5 years of searching.(At least in the under $40 range)
Congrats Ron Lanza and crew!!
Members are clamoring for a return to this grape in 2112. I can’t wait to have a comparison tasting with our 2009s. Early on last year we compared it to Sean Thackery’s Serius our comments are here. http://www.westchesterwinemakers.com/2010/12/22/sean-thackerygreg-perrucci-maestro%E2%80%99s-restaurant-lanza-and-westchesterwinemakers-com-what-do-they-all-have-in-common/
Micheal David,David and David makes a kick ass petite sirah that i think is better than the Concannon.I recommend this wine.I need to try the wood valley.I have a barrel of it from 2010.Lanza Petite Sirah.Going to wait a while longer to bottle.
Thanks Gene! It seems like there’s a connection between Suisun Valley and Petite Sirah. Although I’m proud of this wine, I’ve actually tasted Petite Sirah that we’ve sent in little white boxes to guys like you that made wine that was every bit as good or even better than this one!
Well Fellow I think we need to let Ron taste our Petite Sirah at the M&M Dinner.
Congrats Ron Lanza on your’e Double gold and it’s only a 2009. Can’t wait to try it.
Nice compilation of Petite Sirah growers
